African finches
There are so many small finches in Africa.
This is a bronze mannikin. It is hard to photograph because it is small and plain.
This is common waxbill. Taken in Nairobi National Park.
This is called cut-throat. It is not clear in the picture, but it has a red horizontal line on the throat, which looks like a cut.
This one is called green-winged pytilia. It is a small but beautiful bird.
Here is another beautiful bird, purple grenadier.
This is a red-billed firefinch. A similar species is the African firefinch, which does not have a red beak.
This is a red-cheeked cordon-bleu, with conspicuous cheek rouge. Only the male wears cheek rouge.
This is a quailfinch. It is a very small bird, and I photographed it on the ground by accident when I was trying to photograph another bird.
This is a pin-tailed whydah. The long tail is a distinguishing feature.
