African swallows and swift
Although swallows and the family of swifts look similar, they are very different in terms of taxonomy. The swallow nests used in Chinese cuisine are the tree swallows, which are a different group from these. There are many species of swallows in Africa, some migratory and some year-round.
This is an african sand martin. It is a small swallow.
This is little swift. They are the most common of this group, and are often seen nesting in groups on buildings, bridges, and other structures. They easily dodge cars traveling at speeds of around 100 km/h, but will collide with vehicles traveling at 120 km/h.
It is a striped swallow. It is quite cute.
I think this is probably European Sand Martin, but I can't be sure because there is no photo of it in the illustrated book.
