Hornbills in Africa

There are many hornbills in Africa. They are large birds and impressive.

silvery-cheeked hornbill

This is a large hornbill with a magnificent beak, the Silvery-cheeked Hornbill. The photo was taken in the garden of my apartment in Nairobi. It is also often seen in Arusha National Park, Tanzania.

Black and White Casqued Hornbill

It is called Black and White Casqued Hornbill. This is also a large one, but it is so far away that the photo turned out to be terrible.

trumpetter hornbill

This is also far away! I took this picture somewhere when I first came to Tanzania.

Crowned Hornbill

This is called Crowned Hornbill. This group does not have a hump on its beak.

Grey Hornbill

The Grey Hornbill, which you can see and imagine the name.

jackson's hornbill

This is a beautiful Jackson's Hornbill. It was taken in Baringo, Kenya.

yellow-billed hornbill

This is a Yellow-billed Hornbill, but the yellow beak is indistinguishable from the background.

Von der Decken's Hornbill

This is a female Von der Decken's Hornbill.

Von der Decken's Hornbill

This is a male Von der Decken's Hornbill. The color of the beak is different between the male and female.

ground hornbill

These two birds are Ground Hornbills, which have a slightly different ecology than other hornbills. They mainly walk on the ground and catch insects to eat. They are very humorous birds to watch.
